Billboard Top Christian Songs – April 5, 2014

It looks like nothing is stopping Hillsong United.

The Australian praise and worship outfit’s smash hit, Oceans (When Feet May Fail), has earned its 18th week at number one, tying it with Chris Tomlin’s Made to Worship for the third-longest run at #1 on Billboard Christian Songs chart. If it is number one next week – a very real possibility because the song is racking up significant airplay – then it will tie Brandon Heath’s Give Me Your Eyes and Casting Crowns’ East to West for second-longest run at 19 weeks.

Suddenly, MercyMe’s all-time record of 23 weeks for Word of God Speak doesn’t seem so unbreakable. It’s just another month. And with only Newsboys’ We Believe looming over the ocean horizon – a phenomenal 10-4 jump, but it’s still a big distance between We Believe and Oceans – it looks like the record may very well be broken. Wow!

All this makes my heart ache for Phil Wickham, who deserves to go to #1 with the effervescent This is Amazing Grace. (We haven’t had a grace-related #1 song in a while. Redman’s 10,000 Reasons, perhaps?) What a shame!
