Canadian worship leader and songwriter Dan Bremnes, who scored a Top 20 hit a few months back with his major label debut single, Beautiful, has released Where the Light Is, the carrier single of his first EP of the same title. The soaring anthemic brilliance of Beautiful repeats itself majestically on Where the Light Is, an honest cry to God to come and lead a suffering believer out of the dark, so to speak.
Written by Bremnes after the death of his mother, Where the Light Is was written from a place of hurt and longing, when he needed answers. Because of the urgency in the song, anyone experiencing a valley season where things seem hopeless and God feels terribly far away, will be able to relate to the song and hopefully experience some consolation and encouragement.
Bremnes’s strengths lie in his ability to create soaring, irresistible, radio-friendly melodies. It’s what drew me to Beautiful, one of my Top 10 favorite songs of 2014, and it will be what will hopefully carry Where the Light Is to a similar performance. Breathtaking in its theme and unforgettable in its production, Where the Light Is deserves to be Bremnes’ first Top 10 hit. Christian AC, you missed out on Beautiful and it is my fervent hope you won’t make the same mistake with this one.
WHERE THE LIGHT IS Lyrics
This is me
I grew up in church
Raised on the gospel
Trained in the Word
Had to face those fears
Thought it was all I needed
Life hit me hard
More than I planned
It knocked me down like an avalanche
On the edge of hopelessness
I called You from the darkness
God, come quickly
Only You can save me
Will You lead me where the light is
God, be with me
I don’t know where I’m going
Will You lead me where the light is
I’ve been living in the dark
I’ll be looking for daylight
You’re my daylight
So God, come quickly
Only you can save me
And lead me where the light is
There’s no hurt
No scar or bruise
There’s not a wound too deep for You
Cause You’re everything You say You are
You’re bigger than a broken heart
So hear me now
Hear me now, I’m calling
God, come quickly
Only You can save me
Will You lead me where the light is
God, be with me
I don’t know where I’m going
Will You lead me where the light is
I’ve been living in the dark
I’ll be looking for daylight
You’re my daylight
So God, come quickly
Only you can save me
And lead me where the light is
When I’m lost in the night
When I’m losing the fight
Lead me where the light is
When there tears fill my eyes
When the hope seems too far
Lead me where the light is
God, come quickly
Only You can save me
Will You lead me where the light is
God, be with me
I don’t know where I’m going
Will You lead me where the light is
I’ve been living in the dark
I’ll be looking for daylight
You’re my daylight
So God, come quickly
Only you can save me
And lead me where the light is
When there tears fill my eyes
When the hope seems too far
Lead me where the light is
