I Am is the first solo single of Contemporary Christian singer and worship leader David Crowder after the recent breakup of his massively successful band, David Crowder Band. Since Crowder and company are responsible for some of CCM’s most familiar and beloved songs, including How He Loves, After All (Holy), and Shine, one would expect Crowder to deliver a worship anthem worthy of the pedigree on his first solo journey out, and Crowder does not disappoint.
I Am is a radio programmer’s dream. Crowder takes his magnificent, instantly recognizable voice and settles it firmly along this easily accessible radio anthem. Everything about this track – the singable lyrics, the theme of reliance on God and His omnipresence in our lives, the acoustic guitar and banjo (!), the hand-claps, the sing-along “oh oh oh oh”‘s – they come together in brilliant unison to create a song that will readily take radio by storm. Top 10 – definitely. Number one? I wouldn’t rule it out. Brilliant work, Mr. Crowder.
