Chris Tomlin, “Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)”

Contemporary Christian singer/songwriter and praise and worship leader Chris Tomlin has released Whom Shall I Fear (God Of Angel Armies) to Christian AC. The single debuted at number 42 the week of October 6th on Billboard’s Christian Songs chart; it is the carrier single of his new album, Burning Lights, which also features an all-new recording of the radio hit “White Flag.”

Referred to by Time Magazine as “most likely the most often sung artist anywhere,” Tomlin has sold more than 10 million albums and digital singles combined. The Grammy Award winner’s new single’s debut doesn’t seem overly impressive, but we have to remember that the single formally went for adds September 28. That means the number 42 debut is most likely street-date violations, which means we can expect an explosive jump next week for Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies).

The video in this entry features the story of Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies), as narrated by Tomlin. Taken from 2 Kings 6, the story of Elisha, Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies) accounts how the prophet encouraged God’s people during a time of war, saying “those who are with us are more than those who are against us.” Then he prayed that his servant’s eyes would be open, and they saw the armies of ancients. Needless to say, one of the most powerful stories in the Bible, and a strong reminder that God is always with us and He is mighty to save.

Listen to Chris Tomlin tell the story of Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)

Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies) is one of Tomlin’s most powerful songs yet. As far as the musicality of the song goes, it’s classic Tomlin: singable verses, anthemic chorus, powerful bridge. What makes Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies) special is how it chooses to express its message.

I’ve always said that the church needs more “masculine” songs, songs that speak to how God is a powerful God, how He is a strong tower, a warrior, and nothing – NOTHING! – against us can prosper because He is a God of power, and He is mighty to save. I have very little doubt that Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies) will be Tomlin’s newest and latest number one. What remains to be seen is how this song will impact millions around the world and the church in general, and methinks the impact will be significant. Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies) is a very, very special song, and it will change lives. It will spark a revolution. God has spoken through Tomlin once again.

WHOM SHALL I FEAR (GOD OF ANGEL ARMIES) Lyrics
Chris Tomlin

You hear me when I call
You are my morning song
Though darkness fills the night
It cannot hide the light

Whom shall I fear

You crush the enemy
Underneath my feet
You are my Sword and Shield
Though trouble lingers still

Whom shall I fear

I know Who goes before me
I know Who stands behind
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side
The One who reigns forever
He is a Friend of mine
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side

My strength is in Your name
For You alone can save
You will deliver me
Yours is the victory

Whom shall I fear
Whom shall I fear

I know Who goes before me
I know Who stands behind
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side
The One who reigns forever
He is a Friend of mine
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side

And nothing formed against me shall stand
You hold the whole world in Your hands
I’m holding onto Your promises
You are faithful
You are faithful
You are faithful
Nothing formed against me shall stand
You hold the whole world in Your hands
I’m holding onto Your promises
You are faithful
You are faithful
You are faithful

Adlib: You are faithful, You are faithful

I know Who goes before me
I know Who stands behind
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side
The One who reigns forever
He is a Friend of mine
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side

I know Who goes before me
I know Who stands behind
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side
The One who reigns forever
He is a Friend of mine
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side

The God of angel armies is always by my side
