Mark Hammitt, “All of Me”

Mark Hammitt, lead vocalist of Contemporary Christian rock band Sanctus Real, has released All of Me, the carrier single of his solo debut, Every Falling Tear, out now on Sparrow/EMI CMG. Inspired by his one-year-old son Bowen, who suffers from a congenital heart defect, Every Falling Tear has received unprecedented acclaim from Christian music reviewers, who. While Christian music is full of songs that tell the riveting stories of God’s love amidst tragedy or loss, very few writers manage to pull it off with passion, sincerity, and genuine pathos. Matthew West and Mark Schultz, in particular, are geniuses at crafting lyrics and melodies that fit the stories they tell, crafting the perfect mix of music and words to bring out the brilliance in the song and the glory to the God Who made it happen. Today, West and Schultz are joined by Hammitt, whose first solo single resonates with the emotion felt by a father terrified by the prospect of losing his child yet comforted by the knowledge that his God is in control.

As I listened to All of Me for the first time, it was all I could do to keep the tears from falling, because you can feel Hammitt’s pain, the conflict of emotion that he feels, the desperation in his voice as he struggles with everything he’s been through since Bowen’s miraculous birth. When Hammitt sang So let me recklessly love you, even if I bleed, I let it go, because that lyric is such a poignantly painful, naked moment, that moment when a father says while I have you, I will love you without abandon, love you the way a father would love his child, the way that God loves us. There is a deeper meaning in these words, and I cannot tell you how powerful that moment is. The spare, almost barebones arrangement – a haunting intro, leading into the piano and deep strings, and eventually the full arrangement – fits All of Me so appropriately, I cannot help but acknowledge that God’s hand worked in this song. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

ALL OF ME Lyrics
Mark Hammitt

Afraid to love, something that could break,
Could I move on, if you were torn away?
I’m so close to what I can’t control
I can’t give you half my heart
And pray it makes you whole

You’re gonna have all of me
You’re gonna have all of me
‘Cause you’re worth every fallen tear
You’re worth facing every fear
You’re gonna know all my love
Even if it’s not enough
Enough to mend our broken hearts
Giving you all of me is where I’ll start

I won’t let sadness steal you from my arms
I won’t let pain keep you from my heart
Trade the fear of all that I could lose
For every moment I share with you

You’re gonna have all of me
You’re gonna have all of me
‘Cause you’re worth every fallen tear
You’re worth facing every fear
You’re gonna know all my love
Even if it’s not enough
Enough to mend our broken hearts
Giving you all of me is where I’ll start

Heaven broke into this moment
It’s too wonderful to speak
You’re worth all of me
You’re worth all of me
So let me recklessly love you
Even if I bleed
You’re worth all of me
You’re worth all of me

You’re gonna have all of me
You’re gonna have all of me
‘Cause you’re worth every fallen tear
You’re worth facing every fear
You’re gonna know all my love
Even if it’s not enough
Enough to mend our broken hearts
Giving you all of me is where I’ll start

You’re gonna have all of me
You’re gonna have all of me
‘Cause you’re worth every fallen tear
You’re worth facing every fear
You’re gonna know all my love
Even if it’s not enough
Enough to mend our broken hearts
Giving you all of me is where I’ll start
