Lifehouse, “All In”

(Contemporary Christian) pop-rock band Lifehouse released the incredible Smoke and Mirrors last year to the band’s best week ever, with the album debuting at #6 on the Billboard 200. The stellar Halfway Gone performed extremely well, and now All In, the opening track on Smoke and Mirrors, has suddenly found a market in Christian AC. This surprises but thrills me, because All In is easily one of the best tracks on Smoke and Mirrors. Driving guitars, a tinkling piano line, a moving bridge, and an absolutely irresistible sing-along chorus that is meant to be sung at the top of one’s lungs make All In a really catchy song. This week, All In rises up 84-46 (half the chart!), and I wouldn’t be surprised if All In actually manages to crack the Top 20. (Not too optimistic about Top 10 chances, though, because we can’t really expect Geffen to promote to Christian AC, can we? But for a year-old album to suddenly experience life in another genre is always a good thing, and Lifehouse has never gotten the credit it deserves for bringing the message of Christ to a greater audience. This is great, and I hope more people hear All In. This song, which, based on Christian interpretation of the lyrics, is about complete surrender to God, is terrific!

ALL IN Lyrics
Lifehouse

All night staring at the ceiling
counting for minutes I’ve been feeling this way
So far away and so alone

But you know it’s alright
I came to my senses
Letting go of my defenses
There’s no way I’m giving up this time

Yeah, you know I’m right here
I’m not losing you this time

And I’m all in
Nothing left to hide
I’m falling harder than a landslide
I spend a week away from You last night
And now I’m calling
Calling out Your name
Even if I lose the game, I’m all in
I’m all in tonight
Yeah I’m all in
I’m all in for life

There’s no taking back what we’ve got
Too strong, we’ve had each other’s back for too long
There’s no breaking up this time
And you know it’s okay, I came to my senses
Letting go of my defenses
There’s no way I’m giving up this time

And I’m all in
Nothing left to hide
I’m falling harder than a landslide
I spend a week away from You last night
And now I’m calling
Calling out Your name
Even if I lose the game, I’m all in
I’m all in tonight
Yeah I’m all in
I’m all in for life

I want it, I want it, I want it
I want it, I want it, I want it, yeah
I want it, I want it, I want it, yeah

And I’m all in, calling out your name
Even if I lose the game, I’m all in, I’m all in for life
And I’m all in, nothing left to hide
I’m falling harder than a landslide
I spend a week away from you last night
And now I’m calling, calling out your name
Even if I lose the game, I’m all in
I’m all in tonight, yeah I’m all in, I’m all in for life
Yeah I’m all in, I’m all in for life
