Brenton Brown, “Joyful (The One Who Saves)”

Contemporary Christian singer/songwriter Brenton Brown’s Joyful (The One Who Saves) is the new single off his upcoming CD Our God is Near, out March 2011 on Kingsway Records. Brown, best known for his #1 Inspo hit, Everlasting God, co-wrote the song with Jason Ingram (there he is again! Is Jason Ingram the new Brown Bannister? Everyone’s working with him!), using the melody of Beethoven’s Hymn to Joy off the legendary classical composer’s 9th Symphony. This actually brings Joyful (The One Who Saves) into direct competition with Casting Crowns’ Joyful Joyful for Christmas airplay this holiday season.

Brown shares some insight on Joyful (The One Who Saves) in a blog entry here. I appreciate Brown’s worshipful heart, and am fully convinced churches across the world would do well to use Joyful (The One Who Saves) in their Yuletide worship. Since the CD won’t be available, though, on American shores until March 2011 (!), my recommendation is to find out when iTunes will carry Joyful (The One Who Saves) and purchase it as soon as it’s out. Another option would be to review the song chords here, or perhaps even download the sheet music here.

JOYFUL (THE ONE WHO SAVES) Lyrics
Brenton Brown

Joyful joyful we adore You, God of glory, Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flowers before You, opening to the sun above
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of Eternal gladness fill us with the light of day (cause)

You are the One who saves, You are the One who saves
You are the One whose hands lift us from the grave
You are the light of life, the everlasting day
You are the One who takes all our sins away

You are giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blessed
Fountain of the joy of living, ocean depths of happy rest

Jesus You are my rescue
Jesus You are my rescue
I give You everything I am
