Around two weeks ago, I purchased a copy of Integrity Music’s Healer compilation off House of Praise here in Manila. (The CD retails for Php425.) The weather hasn’t been favorable lately, and people have been getting sick; I, for one, was battling yet another viral infection. Either we or someone in our immediate circle is sick, so I thought it would be a good time to step out of my comfort zone and challenge my latent gift of healing. We are prayer warriors armed with guitars, drums, voices, and all other instrument-weapons at our disposal; let’s use them to our advantage!
Two tracks, in particular, spoke to me: Angela Cruz’s “All His Benefits” (Track 13) & Christy Nockels’ “Be Still and Know” (Track 14). The songs segue smoothly into each other, which makes for a great musical worship experience of almost eight minutes.
Angela Cruz’s “All His Benefits” is special because it is literally the scripture in song. Lifted off Psalm 103, writer Paul Baloche doesn’t change a word: Cruz sings the scripture as is. Guys, there is power in singing scripture. Romans 12:2 says our minds are to be renewed completely by the Word of God; Hebrews 4:12 tells us that the Word is living, powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword – it can pierce soul and spirit, joints and marrow. God’s Word is never without power, and singing it out is a very effective way to battle disease and evil. Singing scripture is also a very good way to memorize a passage! Christy Nockels’ “Be Still And Know,” on the other hand, is a comforting piece that you can use in your devotion for free worship. Nockels sings over and over, “be still and know that I am God.” In your darkest hours, in your lowest moments, I promise this song will comfort you.
