The Museum, “My Help Comes From The Lord”

I am a sucker for Christian power ballads, and Contemporary Christian pop-rock band The Museum has released one of the best ones this year, a powerful track titled My Help Comes From The Lord. The [M]useum (yes, that’s apparently the way the band spells its name), a BEC artist (ooh, labelmate to Jeremy Camp!), has a bonafide hit on its hands: second most-added song on Soft AC/Inspo this week, just on the verge of top 10 there (14-11 this week). I’m sure in the next few weeks, it will go Top 10 – and I wouldn’t be surprised if a #1 finish were in its future – and possibly a crossover onto the main chart. Tooth & Nail Records is distributing My Help Comes From The Lord, so I’m optimistic about its chances.

What do I love about My Help Comes From The Lord? First, I love how its lyrics sing about total dependence on God. Songwriter Ben Richter wrote about how Psalm 121 led him to the song. “It is a great reminder,” he says on the Bio section of the band’s official website, “that when we lift our eyes out of the darkness and focus on Him, our faith will be strengthened!” I love that.

Second, I love its power-packed anthemic chorus. My Help Comes From The Lord was recorded by producers Jason Ingram and Rusty Varenkamp, who were responsible for Contemporary Christian musicians like Tenth Avenue North and Brandon Heath. (Well, that explains it: both TAT and Heath have created some of recent modern CCM’s most ubiquitous hits, including By Your Side and Give Me Your Eyes; Our God Reigns is still one of my favorite worship anthems of all time).

Third, I love the passion that the members of the band put into the song. (They’re from Atlanta, just like Indigo Girls. What is it about Atlanta? Man, I sometimes wish I were Atlantan.) Ben Richter, Geoffrey Ashcraft, Josh Kirk, and Chris Brink are going places, and I know that they have their hearts set in the right place. Their love for people reflects in their social activism. (Buy a shirt from their store; one shirt will feed one hungry person a meal for a month!!)

Please listen to My Help Comes From The Lord and read their Bio. I definitely am a convert; I will definitely buy the album; I will definitely support the band online. If there’s one debut artist I’d recommend for the first half of this year, I would wholeheartedly and unabashedly recommend The [M]useum. These guys are the real deal.

MY HELP COMES FROM THE LORD Lyrics
The Museum

When sorrows come and hope seems gone
You’re the rock I rest upon
When waters rise and I can’t breathe
You’re the love that rescues me

Out of the darkness I lift up my eyes
Unto the hills I feel my faith rise

Maker of heaven
Giver of life
You are my strength
My song in the night
My refuge my shelter
Now and forevermore
My help comes from the Lord

When I’m broken scarred by sin
Death gives way to life again
When I suffer when I doubt
In You I’m free in you I’m found

Maker of heaven
Giver of life
You are my strength
My song in the night
My refuge my shelter
Now and forevermore
My help comes from the Lord

Maker of heaven
Giver of life
You are my strength
You’re my refuge
Now and forevermore…

Maker of heaven
Giver of life
You are my strength
My song in the night
My refuge my shelter
Now and forevermore
My help comes from the Lord
