Contemporary Christian singer/songwriter Jonny Diaz scored his first Top 10 hit late last year with More Beautiful You, a paean to true beauty which comes from the inside; the song peaked at #2. Many compare him to Dave Barnes, Bebo Norman, and Brandon Heath; you may find his sound similar to Jason Mraz or John Mayer. After two independent CDs, Diaz’s first major label debut album – More Beautiful You, under INO Records – has appeared on several Billboard magazine charts; it peaked at #32 on the Top Christian Albums chart and #25 on the Top Heatseekers chart. The follow-up, Stand For You, was a more moderate success.
Jonny Diaz’s new single, Waiting Room, however, is set to get Diaz back into radio’s good graces. It was the most added single at Soft AC/Inspo last week and we should expect it in medium rotation across American Christian Soft AC/Inspo stations in a few weeks’ time. Given America’s inclinations for melodies with a story, yet the notoriously slow turnover rate on Soft AC/Inspo, I predict a Top 15 finish for Waiting Room, sometime in September.
