Contemporary Christian pop-rock band Kutless has released Even If as the sophomore single from its new album, Believer.
Kutless has virtually owned the “worship rock” genre for quite some time now, with 2009 release It Is Well being the seminal album that launched it all. Carrier single Carry Me to the Cross peaked at number 15, not too shabby, What Faith Can Do was a two-month-long chart-topper in 2010. I’m a tad bit surprised the group went with another worshipful ballad for a second single – I would have gone with If It Ends Today – but we’ll take what we can get. Christian Soft AC/Inspo is all over this one; expect an easy Top 10 finish for Even If in this genre.

Many music critics believe that Believer was worth the three-year wait and was one of the best Contemporary Christian albums thus far this year. CBN’s Lisa Webber, in particular, thinks Even If is one of the top three songs on the album. Having said that, I was underwhelmed by Even If. I find the production a tad bit monotonous, and this underwhelms the beautiful Scott Krippayne/Tony Wood lyrics. Other than that, it’s a great song and should do well, although my hopes aren’t high for a finish better than Carry Me to the Cross.
