Mat Kearney’s Ships in the Night scored top debut honors on the Billboard Christian Songs chart the week of February 25, 2012. Interestingly enough, when I swung by YouTube to check out Ships in the Night, I was shocked to see the Ships in the Night audio-video was viewed almost 450,000 times! WOW!
Kearney’s high profile in the secular world is buoyed by the inclusion of his songs in more than a dozen hit television shows, including 30 Rock, Dirty Sexy Money, Kyle XY, Without A Trace, Laguna Beach, The Hills, Bones, Jericho, Friday Night Lights,What About Brian, One Tree Hill, Scrubs, The Closer, NCIS, Life Unexpected, Grey’s Anatomy, and The Vampire Diaries. Ships in the Night is the third single off Young Love, following Hey Mama and Down, the latter of which was a hit on Christian AC, peaking at #23 sometime late last year. The rap-acoustic rock style of Ships in the Night certainly makes it a unique addition to Christian AC, a breath of fresh air, and I would absolutely love it Ships in the Night performed better than Down. We’ll have to see, won’t we?
