Matt Maher, “What a Friend”

Contemporary Chrsitian singer Matt Maher has released “What a Friend,” which is counter-intuitive to what I expected from that title! Expecting a hymn, I instead got a rollicking praise anthem–WHAT?! Yeah! “What a Friend,” penned by Maher with Adam Palmer, MAtthew Hein, and Abbie Parker, brings together what sounds like a Hammond B3, a gospel choir, and a frantic tempo for a home run single across the board. Great track from his new album, “Echoes.”

Jeremy Camp, “The Answer”

Contemporary Christian singer/songwriter Jeremy Camp has released his new single, “The Answer,” which makes a nice debut on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs at No. 38. Written by Camp, “The Answer” boasts of tinkling piano lines and a nice little gospel choir at the end that helps Camp’s distinctive voice lend an urgency to the call to personal and corporate prayer.

THE ANSWER Lyrics
Jeremy Camp

So many questions, the world is reaching
So many hurting, so many lost
With all this thriving, who can we lean on?
Creations crying, out from the dark

I know the answer, to every question
The one solution, to every fear
I know my helper, where it comes from
Jesus, He is the answer

He sees our sadness, He feels our sorrow
And in our weakness, He is strong
He holds the weight of, all of our failings
Greedy is our sin but greater the cross

I know the answer, to every question
The one solution, to every fear
I know my helper, where it comes from
Jesus, He is the answer

For every heart that’s breaking
For every soul that’s shaking
For every sickness, there’s healing in Your hands
Let every heart awaken
To see it’s You who saves us
You are my help and the rock on which I stand

You are the answer, to every question
The one solution, to every fear
You are my helper, where it comes from
Jesus, You are the answer
Oh Jesus, You are the answer
You are the answer
You are the answer
You are the answer

Remnant, “Something Real”

Contemporary Christian pop-rock trio Remnant has released Something Real to Christian Soft AC/Inspo, a track that I instantly liked at first listen, thanks to the memorable chorus, the encouraging message, and the confident voice of lead vocalist Josh Caldwell on lead vocals and guitar, Christian Bllalock on lead guitar and Byron Betsill on bass. Remnant has produced a strong sound not unlike Needtobreathe or Third Day, with a touch of Casting Crowns or Sixpence None the Richer. The immense likeability of Something Real bodes well for the group, which hopefully will earn more spins on Christian Soft AC/Inspo in the weeks to come.

SOMETHING REAL Lyrics
Remnant

Give me something real
Give me something moving
Something to take away my deepest stain
To see me through the pain
Something real
something alive and well
Something that never fails when I need it the most
Give me something real

I was gone never to be found again
Heart of stone, wishing I had never been
Searching for the kind of love that would never end
Hopeless and broken and crying inside

Give me something real
Give me something moving
Something to take away my deepest stain
To see me through the pain
Something real
something alive and well
Something that never fails when I need it the most
Give me something real

I bought the lie that I could make my own way
But that just let me empty and afraid
I knew You loved me from the price that you paid
And I cried “Help me, Lord, will you save me?”

Now I’m home in the arms of the King
And I’m sheltered by the shadow of His wings
And hope’s alive and found in Him alone
I know Him
He’s spoken and I heard Him say

There is Someone real
There is Someone moving
Someeone to take away the deepest stain
To see you through the pain
Someone real
There is Someone proven
Someone alive and well
Someone that never fails when you need it the most
There is Someone real
There is Someone moving
Someeone to take away the deepest stain
To see you through the pain
Someone real
There is Someone proven
Someone alive and well
A love that never fails when you need Him the most
There is Someone real
There is Someone real

Sara Groves, “Eyes on the Prize”

Nobody does a great piano ballad like Sara Groves.

Nichole Nordeman’s Beautiful For Me and Audrey Assad’s Restless notwithstanding, Sara Groves’ Eyes on the Prize is one of the loveliest piano ballads released in the past few months. I love her expressive voice and her passionate delivery on this new single from her latest opus, Invisible Empires. Steve Mason of Jars of Clay makes a welcome cameo on Eyes on the Prize, delivering a solid harmony that is just… sweet, honey-sweet, a soothing balm to the ears, just gorgeous. I love harmonies like these, and the beautiful combination makes Eyes on the Prize a winner through and through. As a song for those feeling a little disheartened on their journey with God, Eyes on the Prize is a terrific encouragement.

EYES ON THE PRIZE Lyrics
Sara Groves

Paul and Silas, bound in jail
Got no money for to go their bail
Keep your eyes on the prize
Hold on

Paul and Silas thought they’d lost
The dungeon shook and the chains fell off
Keep your eyes on the prize
Hold on

Freedom’s name is mighty sweet
And one day soon we are gonna meet
Keep your eyes on the prize
Hold on

Got my hand on the Gospel plow
Won’t take nothing for my journey now
Keep your eyes on the prize
Hold on

The way is slow
And we’ve so far to go
Keep your eyes on the prize
Hold
The way is slow
And we’ve so far to go
Keep your eyes on the prize

Hold on

Only chain a man can stand
Is that chain of hand in hand
Keep your eyes on the prize
Hold on

Ain’t no man on earth control
The weight of glory on a human soul
Keep your eyes on the prize
Hold on

The way is slow
And we’ve so far to go
Keep your eyes on the prize
Hold on
The way is slow
And we’ve so far to go
Keep your eyes on the prize
Keep your eyes on the prize
Keep your eyes on the prize

When you see a man walk free
It makes you dream of Jubilee
When you see a child walk free
It makes you dream of Jubilee
When you see a family free
It makes you dream of Jubilee
Keep your eyes on the prize
Hold on
