Fresh off the success of Cast My Cares, Contemporary Christian singer/songwriter Tim Timmons has released the decidedly pop/rock Awake Our Souls, a feel-good toe-tapping romp that is both encouraging and convicting. Timmons writes about the condition of the hearts of believers who only pray when they need God, but whose lives don’t ring out with the truth of the gospel. The call to “awake our souls,” to tune in to the higher calling to which we are drawn, is a powerful reminder and call, and our challenge to be salt and light becomes real and tangible. It’s a terrific song.
AWAKE OUR SOULS Lyrics
Tim Timmons
A lot of us pray, we pray hard
With promises made when times are dark
But few are remembered
Few are surrendered
The anthem rings in spite of us
In war and peace, inviting us
To listen to the sound now
Of the kingdom calling
Awake our souls, awake our souls
Tear down the walls, dance in the freedom
Awake our souls, awake our souls
Open our eyes to see it ‘cause
Everywhere the King is, there is the kingdom
Everywhere the King is, there is the kingdom
Everywhere the King is King
There’s so many days, I miss it
Fighting for my way instead of Yours
But when I surrender
I wake to remember
Awake our souls, awake our souls
Tear down the walls, dance in the freedom
Awake our souls, awake our souls
Open our eyes to see it ‘cause
Everywhere the King is, there is the kingdom
Everywhere the King is, there is the kingdom
Everywhere the King is King
