I don’t say this lightly, but Housefires’ Good Good Father is a very special song, definitely my favorite new worship song of 2015 so far.
Praise and worship outfit Housefires, a group of musicians from Atlanta, Ga. who pursue authentic worship of God, released Good Good Father in August 2014. Having only stumbled onto Good Good Father while searching iTunes’ Gospel and Christian singles chart, I was stunned by the simple beauty and authenticity of the song. Written by Pat Barrett and Tony Brown, Good Good Father is a spare worship ballad that sings literally of God’s goodness, and paints a simple picture of His identity, even as it underscores our own identity in Him. Any person who’s ever felt lonely or unloved will be ministered to by this song, because it declares something we’ve always wanted: identity and purpose. We are loved by our heavenly Father. It’s that simple.
In my opinion, the beauty of Good Good Father lies in its inherent singability, honest lyrics, and simple melody. All three have come together in an absolutely gorgeous musical tapestry that makes Good Good Father easy to sing in any worship setting. Whether you’re a mega-church–Israel Houghton sang Good Good Father at Lakewood!–or a small house church, you shouldn’t have any trouble singing Good Good Father in your services. And mark my words, this song will minister to you.
