Jeremy Camp, “Reckless”

Contemporary Christian singer/songwriter Jeremy Camp has released Reckless, the carrier single of his upcoming 2013 studio album. With 32 number one radio singles, 175 collective weeks at number one over a variety of Christian formats, and his first Christmas album slated for release in October, Camp is riding high, the product, apparently, of living recklessly for Christ.

“If God says go,” Camp says, “I wanna go 100%, and I will go 100%. Live radically for Jesus Christ. If God calls you, you dig into that calling, because he’s called (us) in a huge way.” Reckless feeds into that passion to do great things for God, with a powerful chorus and heartfelt lyrics that capture the heart for living for the gospel. Reckless is going for adds on October 5, but street date violations seem to be fueling the fire this early in the game.

Camp has typically performed well with carrier singles, and this should be interesting, considering that I expect he will be up against Chris Tomlin’s Whom Shall I Fear. Either way, this season is a great time for Contemporary Christian music lovers, and Camp has upped the ante with Reckless.

RECKLESS Lyrics
Jeremy Camp

Everytime I try to play it safe
Holding back just a little part of me
I find myself forgetting what I say that I believe
The promise of Your Word is all I need
Is all I need

I’ll lay my life down and give it up
I’ll give it up

I wanna be reckless
Cause You are endless
I wanna be shameless
And shout Your greatness
I will not be afraid
To surrender my way
And follow who You are
I wanna be reckless
Reckless

I will lose my life and just let go
Because I know this world is not my home
With fearless faith, I won’t be moved
Unshakeable inside Your truth

You laid Your life down and gave it up
So I’ll give it up

I wanna be reckless
Cause You are endless
I wanna be shameless
And shout Your greatness
I will not be afraid
To surrender my way
And follow who You are
I wanna be reckless
Reckless

I won’t waste any more time
My life’s Yours it is not mine
Use me Lord no matter what’s at stake
