Known to most Christian music lovers as one-half of the current lineup of legendary vocal group Avalon, Contemporary Christian singers/songwriters and husband-and-wife Jeremi and Ami Richardson have released Ancient Wells as the carrier single of their new album, Never Let Go, which dropped September 18 in digital and CD formats across the United States.
With Ancient Wells, the Richardsons have crafted up a masterful and powerful modern hymn for the ages. Written by Jeremi Richardson and brilliantly executed by both Richardsons, Ancient Wells encroaches in on territory previously explored by artists like Keith Getty, Stuart Townend, and the late great Rich Mullins. The modern hymn, with its poetic lyrics, repetitive melodies, and clearly Biblical perspective, is very rarely explored in the gloss of the power-pop and powder-puff lightness of Christian music today, but artists like Getty, Townend, and now the Richardsons are leading the charge to bring this kind of music into Christian homes and churches.
Ancient Wells isn’t too far removed from the style that most Avalon fans have come to expect, but this doesn’t seem like Avalon territory. After Reborn, Avalon’s latest studio release, which allowed the foursome to explore a more rock-oriented style after years of electro-pop and Brown Bannister-fueled production, Ancient Wells is decidedly less pop-rock and more modern hymn. Its melody is accessible and singable, delivered with a vocal style that will allow worship leaders to spread their wings, and an instrumentation that is flexible enough to find a home in churches and at Christian Soft AC/Inspo and Christian AC stations with adventurous programmers. Ancient Wells is a bold and daring radio single choice from a couple that deserves to be heard by more Christian music lovers across the world.

ANCIENT WELLS
Ancient words speak louder than before
Oh, songs sing out your stanzas
Rock the universe with the power of your word
Join the song of the redeemed
And throngs of elders worshiping
Give your heart and lift your hands
Let’s re-dig those wells
La la la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la
Ancient words speak louder than before
Oh, songs sing out your stanzas
Rock the universe with the power of your word
Join the song of the redeemed
And throngs of elders worshiping
Give your heart and lift your hands
Let’s re-dig those wells
La la la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la
Let’s redig those wells
La la la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la
See the dead walk
Watch the blind see
Hear the voice that never has spoken
We wanna hear the cry of victory
Joining with the saints
Crying we are free
See the dead walk
Watch the blind see
Hear the voice that never has spoken
We wanna hear the cry of victory
Joining with the saints
Crying we are free
See the dead walk
Watch the blind see
Hear the voice that never has spoken
We wanna hear the cry of victory
Joining with the saints
Crying we are free
La la la la la la la
We are free
La la la la la la
We are free
La la la la la la
Hearts start beating in freedom
Lungs start breathing in the breath of God
Release your faith in the name of Jesus
Line our bodies with the word of God
Hearts start beating in freedom
Lungs start breathing in the breath of God
Release your faith in the name of Jesus
Line our bodies with the word of God
Hearts start beating in freedom
Lungs start breathing in the breath of God
Release your faith in the name of Jesus
Line our bodies with the word of God
Dig those wells, dip into the water
The water of revival of days gone by
Increase our vision
Display Your power
Lord, we wanna see the fire come down
Oh the fire come down
