Contemporary Christian pop/rock band Big Daddy Weave has released Redeemed as the second single off Love Come to Life. The carrier single and title track did relatively well, although it wasn’t as big a hit as most typical Big Daddy Weave singles. I’m pretty confident that this will change with Redeemed, whose lyrics and instrumentation are a notch above 90% of what’s playing on Christian AC. Redeemed is not exactly a worship song, but it does speak into the heart of the Christian who, in times of difficulty, remembers that he is saved and protected by God, which makes Redeemed a lovely song that will tug at the hearts of many Christian AC listeners (and hopefully radio programmers). Lead singer Jay Weaver delivers a breathtakingly controlled and vocally superior performance. Altogether a fine single from one of America’s finest CCM bands.
REDEEMED Lyrics
Big Daddy Weave
Seems like all I can see was the struggle
Haunted by ghosts that lived in my past
Bound up in shackles of all my failures
Wondering how long is this gonna last
Then You look at this prisoner and say to me,
“Son, stop fighting a fight that’s already been won”
I am redeemed
You set me free
So I’ll shake off these heavy chains and
Wipe away every stain
Now I’m not who I used to be
I am redeemed
All my life I have been called unworthy
Named by the voice of my shame and regret
But when I hear You whisper, “Child, lift up your head,”
I remember oh God, You’re not done with me yet
I am redeemed
You set me free
So I’ll shake off these heavy chains and
Wipe away every stain
Now I’m not who I used to be
I am redeemed
Because I don’t have to be the old man inside of me
Cause his day is long dead and gone
Because I’ve got a new name
A new life
I’m not the same
And a hope that will carry me home
I am redeemed
You set me free
So I’ll shake off these heavy chains and
Wipe away every stain
Now I’m not who I used to be
I am redeemed
I am redeemed
You set me free
So I’ll shake off these heavy chains and
Wipe away every stain
Now I’m not who I used to be
I am redeemed
Thank God
Redeemed
