Most of America knows Anthony Evans for his semifinal finish on the second season of the hit NBC singing competition The Voice, but well before he competed on that show, he was creating amazing Contemporary Christian music. There are at least two Anthony Evans albums out there that are jam-packed with amazing music. His performance of The Way That You Love Me is one of my favorite Christian songs of all time – PERIOD! – and while I think that Christina Aguilera was off her rocker when she paired him up against Jesse Campbell, I know God has greater things in store for Anthony Evans.
Having said that, today is Good Friday, and in the spirit of remembering Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, I’m sharing Anthony Evans’ version of the John Mark MacMillan hit How He Loves. While many, many people have done fantastic versions of this, including the Top 3 hit by David Crowder*Band and another by Kim Walker and Jesus Culture, there’s something about returning to the old-school gospel roots of Anthony Evans that is just mind-blowing. This Easter, as we celebrate the greatest gift of love mankind has ever seen, let us let Anthony Evans take us there.
HOW HE LOVES Lyrics
Anthony Evans
He is jealous for me
Loves like a hurricane
I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy
When all of a sudden I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by Glory
And I realize just how beautiful you are and how great your affections are for me
Oh how he loves us, so
Oh How he loves us, how he loves us so
He is jealous for me
Loves like a hurricane
I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy
When all of a sudden I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by Glory
And I realize just how beautiful you are and how great your affections are for me
And oh, how he loves us so,
Oh how he loves us, how he loves us so
Yeah he loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves
We are his portion and he is our prize
Drawn to redemption by the grace in his eyes
If grace is an ocean we’re all sinking
So, heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets when I think about the way
He loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves
Yeah, he loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves
Yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
He loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves
