TobyMac, “Lose My Soul (Shoc Remix)”

TobyMac’s new remix project, Dubbed and Freq’d: A Remix Project contains some pretty dope tracks, including remixed versions of some of my favorite TobyMac tracks like City on Our Needs, Tonight, Get Back Up, and Showstopper. My favorite remix on the album, however, is this track right here, the Lose My Soul (Shoc Remix), remixed by Jack Shocklee, who has done some magnificent work with his wife, Beckah Shae. The standout piano lines add some even more terrific texture to this TobyMac gem, and I think it’s the best in the lot. I’m a little disappointed that we don’t seem to have too many house tracks on this one – I know TobyMac wouldn’t exactly work with the gay community, but it would have been really awesome to hear a Thunderpuss or Junior Vasquez take on any of his hits – but it’s otherwise a good album, with Lose My Soul my top recommendation on the project.
