The Fray, “Heartbeat”

American rock band The Fray, which scored a crossover hit on the Christian charts in 2005 with How to Save a Life, is back with Heartbeat, the first single off the upcoming album, Scars and Stories, due February 7, 2012. While not as instantly catchy as How to Save a Life, Heartbeat is a passionately delivered song about, well, passion. Or at least, that’s what I think it’s about. The somewhat ambiguous lyrics lend to potential interpretation about whom the song is being sung to, and methinks this ambiguity can be both boon (potentially about God, possibly inspiring) and bane (harmless yet vague, possible love interpretation). Still, Scars and Stories, the outfit’s follow-up to the 2009 Christmas EP and the self-titled sophomore release, has a lot of potential, and I’m interested to see how The Fray continues to reinvent and make itself relevant.
