David Crowder Band’s (SMS) Shine is now officially one of my top five favorite videos of all time. MY GOSH. What a beautiful video! It left me speechless. That’s how good it is.
(SMS) Shine now seems to be going viral, with more than 140,000 views in just six days. Taken from the brilliant – ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT – album Church Music, (SMS) Shine shares a beautiful realization: that “God shares in the suffering of life and brings redemption for everything that is broken, and this revelation causes, no, demands, that those of us who have experienced and participate in this great rescue, display such a thing to those who live unaware of a balm, a fix, an answer to and for all that is bent.” The previous quote was lifted off a blog entry here, in which David tells the story of how the (SMS) Shine video came to be. You should read it. Made with the 80s toy Lite Brite, this video tells the story of a boy and a girl and their life.
Friends, I was moved beyond words by the (SMS) Shine video. The song itself is beautiful, but this video absolutely takes the cake. You must watch it. You must pass it on. More than just entertaining, (SMS) Shine is a stunning visual masterpiece that was pulled together by sheer determination. No special effects, nothing but good old elbow grease, a stop motion camera, and a vision to make something glorious for the honor of God. And it was. David Crowder and gang, you’ve outdone yourselves yet again. Bravo.
SMS (SHINE) Lyrics
David Crowder Band
Send me a sign
A hint, O whisper
Fill me with life
‘Cause I am listening
Come break the quiet
Breathe your awakening
Bring me the light
‘Cause I am fading
Surround me with the rush of angels’ wings
Shine Your light so I can see You
Pull me up, I need to be near You
Hold me, I need to feel loved
Can You overcome this heart that’s overcome?
You sent a sign
The hint, O whisper
Human, divine
Everyone is listening
Death laid low
Quiet in the night is stirring
All around the rush of angels
O the wonder of the greatest love has come
Shine Your light so all can see it
Lifted up, ’cause the whole world needs it
Love has come, what joy to hear it
He has overcome, He has overcome
