Contemporary Christian pop-rock star TobyMac has racked up two #1 hits from his new CD, Tonight: the title track and Get Back Up. His new single, Hold On, co-written with Cary Barlow and Jesse Frasure, promises to continue that impressive streak going; it’s performing well, second-most added at Christian AC this week (behind Tenth Avenue North You Are More), which is pretty good for a third single on the Christian charts. Not everyone can be Chris Tomlin or Casting Crowns.
TobyMac’s Hold On is a song of encouragement. I particularly like that the second verse seems directed at girls who are going through a rough time. Most of the time, messages of empowerment directed at women come from women themselves (Nichole Nordeman’s Beautiful For Me and Nicole C. Mullen’s Baby Girl come to mind); lately, we’ve been seeing more female-centric empowerment messages from the men, including TobyMac and Jonny Diaz (More Beautiful You). If you don’t have a copy of Tonight, you’d do well to pick up a copy. That’s two #1 hits and a third on the way. How can you go wrong?
