Jason Castro, “You Are”

American Idol Season Seven finalist Jason Castro has signed with Christian recording label Word Entertainment to release his first Christian CD, Who I Am, which drops November 9 (via Atlantic Records) via his official website and all Christian retailers. Jason Castro’s Christian carrier single, You Are, is one of the top five most added songs at Christian AC this week.

You Are is a decidedly different slant for Jason Castro, who was a contestant on the seventh season of American Idol. I might be wrong, but if this track is Eskelin-produced, it certainly shows. It’s more hard-edged than Let’s Just Fall in Love Again, or any of his other more famous tracks, including his version of Jeff Buckley’s Halellujah and Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s Over the Rainbow. The anthemic chorus, the memorable sing-along verse, the soaring bridge… Jason Castro’s You Are seems tailor-fit to propel him into Contemporary Christian Music’s latest set of crossover American Idol stars, the roster of which includes Mandisa, Phil Stacey, and Chris Sligh. (This doesn’t even include secular songs that made it into the Christian chart from Christian Idol artists including Carrie Underwood (Temporary Home), Jordin Sparks (co-writer of Human by Natalie Grant), and Kris Allen (Live Like You’re Dying).)

Jason Castro’s Who I Am is a unique collection of songs, featuring five fresh tracks, including the new single You Are, alongside five fan-favorites from his incredible self-titled debut album released this past spring. Who I Am features tracks produced by Ian Eskelin, who’s worked with Christian luminaries like All Star United, Avalon, Francesca Battistelli, and Remedy Drive. The CD also features collaborations with a variety of secular songwriters and producers, including Marc Roberge of O.A.R.; Gregg Wattenberg (Five For Fighting); Zac Maloy (David Cook); Espionage (Train); and Eric Rosse (Tori Amos, Sara Bareilles). The end result is a CD that showcases Castro’s considerable gifts as a vocalist, songwriter and musician.

The following is the track listing for Jason Castro’s Who I Am:
1. What If I Fall
2. You Are
3. That’s What I’m Here For
4. Changing Colors
5. Wait For a Miracle
6. Who I Really Am
7. It Matters To Me
8. Let’s Just Fall In Love Again
9. This Heart Of Mine
10. Hallelujah

YOU ARE Lyrics
Jason Castro

Looking for meaning
Looking for love
Looking for something to never give up
You are the One
You are the One

Looking for purpose in all of the pain
Looking for Someone to hold in the rain
You are the One
You are the One

You are life
More beautiful
You are love
More powerful
You are the light that always shines
You are the one

You came in my darkness
You came in my night
You came without warning
You came to my side

You are the One
You are the One

There’s no before You
There’s no too late
There’s no without You
There’s only today

You are the One
You are the One

You are life
More beautiful
You are love
More powerful
You are the light that always shines
You are the One

You are the song I want to sing
You are here
You are everything
You are the light that always shines
You are the One

And I will never move on from You
I will never move on from You
Yeah

You are life
More beautiful
You are love
More powerful
You are the light that always shines
You are the one
You are the song I gotta sing
You are here
You are everything
You are the light that always shines
You are the One
You are the One
You are the One
You are the light that shines
You are the One

And I will never move on from You
I will never move on from You
