Ginger Millermon, “Who He Says He Is”

At first glance, Contemporary Christian songwriter Ginger Millermon seems to have it all. She is a gifted songwriter, recording artist, author, women’s speaker, and worship leader ministering in churches, women’s conferences, and pro-life events. She’s registered three Top 10 hits on Radio and Records’ Soft AC/Inspo charts, and her new single, Who He Says He Is, off her sixth CD Rescued (Another Music), is working its way up the Inspo charts.

Ginger’s story is particularly noteworthy for me because of what she’d gone through with her children. She and husband Joel had twin boys, Brennan and Jarrott, who were born premature. Jarrott fought a particularly precarious battle as he spent his first few years of life on a ventilator; most of his doctors said his case was hopeless. God was the Millermon’s only way to survival, and Jarrott’s being around now is testament to God’s goodness, faithfulness, and grace.

According to Ginger’s website, her ministry’s goal is two-fold: that believers be encouraged and find hope in their walk with God, and that pre-believers who have never received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior may commit their lives to Him. I join them in that prayer. The lyrics to Who He Says He Is by Ginger Millermon belie the gentle melody of the song: it doesn’t mince words about the declaration of faith in the certain things that we hold onto as “the gospel truth” as Christians. I imagine a song like this is the kind of song that pre- and non-believers would find difficult to accept, but it isn’t our job to sugarcoat the Good News and the truths we hold onto as part of it; it’s our job to tell it. And Ginger Millermon does exactly that.

WHO HE SAYS HE IS Lyrics
Ginger Millermon

We who share one common thing
Living life from day to day
We place our hope and our trust in the trinity

Though we may have different ways
of worshipping and bringing praise
Subtle bents and takes on theology

But there are things that we must hold onto
That cannot move or sway

I believe that Jesus is the only way to Heaven
The Truth and the Life and that all is forgiven
To those who receive the Cross the Blood and the Life
I believe that every single word that is written
Is true and it means that it’s how it should be lived and
I believe that God is Who He says He is

And like God intended it to be
One woman, man, in unity
Forever joined as one in His perfect love
As I believe that every life is made precious in His sight
He knew our names so long before time began

And these are things that we must hold onto
That cannot move or sway

I believe that Jesus is the only way to Heaven
The Truth and the Life and that all is forgiven
To those who receive the Cross the Blood and the Life
I believe that every single word that is written
Is true and it means that it’s how it should be lived and
I believe that God is Who He says He is

Who He says He Is
There are things that we must hold onto that cannot move or sway

I believe that Jesus is the only way to Heaven
The Truth and the Life and that all is forgiven
To those who receive the Cross the Blood and the Life
I believe that every single word that is written
Is true and it means and that’s how it should be lived in and
I believe that God is Who He says He is
I believe that God is Who He says He is
I believe that God is Who He says He is
