These are the ten best Christian songs, in terms of chart performance and radio airplay, in the United States as of May 8, 2010, according to Billboard.com. MercyMe makes it a full month at #1 with All of Creation, setting the stage for a particularly exciting debut on the Billboard 200 with the album from which the single is taken, The Generous Mr. Lovewell. MercyMe is bidding to become the first #1 debut on the Billboard 200 with a full Christian CD. (Apparently, it hasn’t been done.)
There are three songs on the chart that were not there the previous week: Sidewalk Prophets’ You Can Have Me, Satellites and Sirens’ Anchor, and Chasen’s Castaway. Addison Road scores the Greatest Gainer award for its new single, Fight Another Day (up 44-35); also registering significant increases on the chart this week are Tenth Avenue North (Healing Begins, up 23-17), Amy Grant (Better Than a Hallelujah, up 15-10, her first Top 10 hit on the Christian chart since Simple Things peaked at #7 in 2003), the now Michael Tait-led Newsboys (Born Again, up 32-27), and Chris Tomlin (Our God, up 16-12). Ecstatic, too, that Lincoln Brewster’s Power of Your Name rebounds 33-29.
