MercyMe, “Best News Ever”

Contemporary Christian supergroup MercyMe’s new single, “Best News Ever,” is one of the group’s most singable singles in a while.

Written by MercyMe frontman Bart Millard with Barry Graul, Ben Glover, David Garcia, Michael Scheuchzer, Nathan Cochran, Robby Shaffer, and Solomon Olds, “Best News Ever” offers listeners a truly catchy melody.

Its message of hope in Jesus is just what the doctor ordered for Christians needing an extra boost of encouragement.

BEST NEWS EVER Lyrics
MercyMe

Some say, “Don’t give up”
And hope that your good is good enough
Head down, keep on working
If you could earn it, you deserve it
Some say, “Push on through”
After all, it’s the least that you can do
But don’t buy, what they’re selling
It couldn’t be further from the truth

What if I were the one to tell you
That the fight’s already been won
Well, I think your day’s about to get better
What if I were the one to tell you
That the work’s already been done
It’s not good news
It’s the best news ever

Some say, “Don’t ask for help”
God helps the ones who help themselves
Press on, get it right
Otherwise, get left behind
Some say, “He’s keeping score”
So try hard, then try and lean on God
Hold up, if this weren’t true
Explain to me, what the cross is for

What if I were the one to tell you
That the fight’s already been won
Well, I think your day’s about to get better
What if I were the one to tell you
That the work’s already been done
It’s not good news
It’s the best news ever
Best news ever

So won’t you come
Come all you weary and your burdened
You heavy laden and you hurting
For all of you with nothing left
Come and find restWhat if I were the one to tell you
That the fight’s already been won
Well, I think your day’s about to get better

What if I were the one to tell you
That the work’s already been done
It’s not good news
It’s the best news ever
Best news everIt’s not good news
It’s the best news ever
Best news ever
It’s not good news
It’s the best news ever

Unspoken, “Miracle”

Contemporary Christian pop/rock group Unspoken has released Miracle to radio, and the song has reached No.18 on Billboard’s Christian Songs chart. While a little more sedate musically from its previous singles, Miracle, which was penned by Jason Walker, Chad Mattson, Tedd Andrew Tjornhom, and Jon Lowry, will encourage anyone going through times of trouble.

Casting Crowns, “God of All My Days”

Contemporary Christian pop/rock supergroup Casting Crowns has released “God of All My Days” from their latest album, “The Very Next Thing.” Written by frontman Mark Hall with producer du jour Jason Ingram, “God Of All My Days” is a strong declaration of trust in a God Who has proven Himself mighty and faithful. It’s a lovely song, with a catchy melody and inspiring lyrics. I think this one will be a Top 10 hit for sure.

Sidewalk Prophets, “Come to the Table”

Contemporary Christian pop/rock band Sidewalk Prophets has released its new single, Come To The Table, a moving ballad produced by Seth Mosley and Mike O’Connor. Written by Ben McDonald, Dave Frey, and Ben Glover, what makes Come to the Table a winner, even more than Dave Frey’s brilliant vocals, is the emotional and encouraging message of how we will all be together with Jesus some day.

By the way, this lyric video is absolutely gorgeous, y’all. Be sure to watch it in its entirety.

Stars Go Dim, “Walking Like Giants”

Contemporary Christian pop/rock group Stars Go Dim has followed up its Top 10 hit, You Are Loved, with the second single off their self-titled major-label debut. Titled Walking Like Giants, this single is every bit as catchy as its predecessor, if not more so. Lifting a page from the Encouragement Playbook that has proven so successful for its debut release, Walking Like Giants does everything right: catchy chorus (check!), soaring bridge (check!), inspiring lyrics (check!), opportunity for people who can’t sing, to join in with a unison singalong (check!!).

Overall, a standout effort from one of CCM’s rising stars.

WALKING LIKE GIANTS Lyrics
Stars Go Dim

Life seems like a uphill battle
Like more than you can handle
But we have a hope that it’s real

And there’s power that lives inside us
We were made with hearts like lions
We’re not given a spirit of fear
His strength inside us, We are fighters
Made to rise, With faith alive
We’re standing Ten-Feet high

We’re not giving up, when struggles come
There’re not big enough, oohh oohh
There’s no stopping us, we’re fearless inside
We’re walking like giants
We’re not giving up, with every step
He’s still here with us, oohh oohh
Whatever comes our way
We’ll be walking like giants
Walking like giants

It might seem like the biggest mountains
Got you surrounded,
But there’s a God above it all
No fear, we keep moving forward
Ya, we’re marching on like soldiers
No such thing as impossible

We’re not giving up, when struggles come
There’re not big enough, oohh oohh
There’s no stopping us, we’re fearless inside
We’re walking like giants
We’re not giving up, with every step
He’s still here with us, oohh oohh
Whatever comes our way
We’ll be walking like giants
Walking like giants

Whatever may come, we’re rising above
Through fire or rain, nothings stopping us 2x

We’re not giving up, when struggles come
There’re not big enough, oohh oohh
There’s no stopping us, we’re fearless inside
We’re walking like giants
We’re not giving up, with every step
He’s still here with us, oohh oohh
Whatever comes our way
We’ll be walking like giants
Walking like giants

Oooohhhh, Oooohhh

Whatever may come, we’re rising above
Through fire or rain, nothings stopping us 2x

Tauren Wells, “Love is Action”

Former Royal Tailor frontman Tauren Wells has released Love is Action, the carrier single of his debut EP, Undefeated. An irresistible urban gospel jam that has me very excited for Wells’ future career, Love is Action invites the listener to consider actually showing love and concern for other people, for the glory of Christ. Packaged with a funk/pop hook that will not quit, and showcasing Wells’ soaring vocals, Love is Action is definitely special, and clearly a radio single primed for success.

LOVE IS ACTION Lyrics
Tauren Wells

Nobody changes the world
Standing in the crowd
Nobody’s voice is ever heard
Until they open their mouth
Won’t our loud go quiet
Won’t let the saints go silent
Let’s turn it up
Tell the world what we’re about

Hands reaching up toward Heaven
Hearts ready for what’s next
Lights breaking through the darkness
Camera, they ain’t seen nothin’ yet

Love is action that you take
Passion that can make
Any kind of wall come down
Love is action
Walking out our faith
Giving everything
Nothing’s gonna stop us now
Love is action
Love is action

No, I’m not crazy to believe
Love can save a life
If we go running to the need
Leave apathy behind
We declare the fame of Jesus’ name
Every second that we live our lives

What have we been waiting for
Somebody tell me
Push the pedal through the floor
Love at full speed

Sidewalk Prophets, “Impossible”

Contemporary Christian pop/rock group Sidewalk Prophets has released Impossible, the third single off their latest album, Something Different. After the carrier single, Prodigal, made the Top 20 and the follow-up, To Life is Christ, did well on Inspo but middled in the Top 40 of the main chart, Impossible is the right song to get the Prophets back into radio’s good graces.

An inspiring song about the power of God to do great things for the good of those who love Him, it is a great testimonial song and encourager for people who need a pick-me-up during their difficult times. I played it one time, by the second time, my nine-year-old Nicola was singing along with the song, which tells you that it’s so easy to sing and incredibly catchy. Altogether, another sterling effort from one of CCM’s most consistent groups.

IMPOSSIBLE Lyrics
Sidewalk Prophets

They tell me that I can’t
Tell me that I won’t
Tell me that I’m washed up
Tell me that I’m broke
They tell me that I don’t
Don’t have what it takes
Tell me that I’m crazy
Hanging on by faith
Tell me I’m a lost cause
I’m a hopeless soul
Just stand back watch my God do

The impossible, the impossible
Everything is possible
With him everything is possible, is possible
Everything is possible
Everything is possible

Precious God, You bring life from death
With Your word, all of time began
Is possible, the impossible
Everything is possible
Watch our God do the impossible

Some would say it’s foolish
Stepping on the ways
Some would say it’s over
When you’re buried in the grave
We’re calling all the dreamers
With passion in their eyes
Calling all believers out into the light
Even when it’s hopeless
Out of our control
Just let go, watch our God do

The impossible, the impossible
Everything is possible
With him everything is possible, is possible
Everything is possible
Everything is possible

Precious God you bring life from death
With your word all of time began
Is possible, the impossible
Everything is possible
Watch our God do the impossible

When our God speaks
The mountains roar
The whole earth trembles with the throne
Though this life can be
His glorious break enlights the sun
When our hope is lost
When our strength is gone
He is rising up
We will overcome

The impossible, the impossible
Everything is possible
With him everything is possible, is possible
Everything is possible
Everything is possible

Precious God you bring life from death
With your word all of time began
Is possible, the impossible
Everything is possible
Watch our God do the impossible

When our hope is lost
When our strength is gone
He is rising up
We will overcome

Casting Crowns, “Broken Together”

Every now and then, a Contemporary Christian artist will release a song with the clear intention of touching hearts and lives. Because of its delicate subject matter, you know that Christian radio won’t be as open to it as with the artist’s previous tracks, and it will break an otherwise stellar run of hits. But it won’t matter, because it says something that needs to be said.

“Marriage is tough,” Mark Hall says in the online liner notes to Broken Together, Casting Crowns’ latest radio single, and a song that fits the mold of what I was talking about in the previous paragraph. “We bring a lot of fairy tales to the picture when it comes to marriage. We bring them to the altar with us [thinking]: ‘This is going to be perfect. We don’t have to be apart. We can just wake up together every morning and no one is going to have morning breath. We’re not going to have any problems.’ And then the problems hit and you don’t know where to file those into your picture. . . The idea I’m trying to say is: ‘Can you lay down who you thought I was and love the ‘me’ that is? Can we take this from where we are now and realize that I can’t be that person?’ Only God is going to be able to make this work and broken people can be broken together. To me, it’s probably the most important song on the record.”

And it is. Not unlike Chris August’s Restore–which, by the way, is a superior radio single, IMHO–Broken Together is an important track of stellar significance because of its subject matter. Husbands and wives in desperate situations can come to terms with the weighty dilemma in their hands because of how well their situation is mirrored in Broken Together. Casting Crowns has never shied away from sensitive relationship issues–take the equally brilliant Megan Garrett-led single, Just Another Birthday, which broke the string of hits from Come to the Well but impacted thousands of lives across the world–and Broken Together continues to show why Casting Crowns continues to be one of the most relevant and important groups in Contemporary Christian music today.

BROKEN TOGETHER Lyrics
Casting Crowns

What do you think about when you look at me
I know we’re not the fairytale you dreamed we’d be
You wore the veil, you walked the aisle, you took my hand
And we dove into a mystery

How I wish we could go back to simpler times
Before all our scars and all our secrets were in the light
Now on this hallowed ground, we’ve drawn the battle lines
Will we make it through the night

It’s going to take much more than promises this time
Only God can change our minds

Maybe you and I were never meant to be complete
Could we just be broken together
If you can bring your shattered dreams and I’ll bring mine
Could healing still be spoken and save us
The only way we’ll last forever is broken together

How it must have been so lonely by my side
We were building kingdoms and chasing dreams and left love behind
I’m praying God will help our broken hearts align
And we won’t give up the fight

Maybe you and I were never meant to be complete
Could we just be broken together
If you can bring your shattered dreams and I’ll bring mine
Could healing still be spoken and save us
The only way we’ll last forever is broken together
