Billboard Top Christian Songs – March 2, 2013

Billboard Top Christian Songs – March 2, 2013

In an interesting turn of events, after only three weeks atop Billboard’s Christian Songs chart, Chris Tomlin’s Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies) slips to number two, as a former number one song, Kristian Stanfill’s One Thing Remains returns to the top for the third time in its chart life and for a fourth week overall. MercyMe’s You Are I Am, the most likely contender to the throne, stays at number three, even as most of the songs in the Top 10 remain stationary and no new songs enter the Top 10 for a fourth week in a row.

That may change, though, as tobyMac’s Steal My Show scores a sharp increase from 14-11 this week. Should tobyMac enter the Top 10 next week – I’m sorry, but I’m sorta rooting for Matthew West’s Forgiveness to slip to #11, I can’t believe I’m saying this – this will complete the dcTalk reunion in the Top 10, the first time the three members of the legendary 90s group were in the Top 10 at the same time. With Michael Tait now leading Newsboys (currently #8 with Your Love Never Fails) and Kevin Max fronting Audio Adrenaline (comfortably ensconced at #9 with Kings and Queens), my fervent hope that we’ll see all three members of dcTalk in the Top 10 at the same time with their own careers, may actually come true! Yay!

Mandisa, Mike Donehey, Mark Hall & Stephen Curtis Chapman, “Jesus Firm Foundation”

Mandisa, Mike Donehey, Mark Hall & Stephen Curtis Chapman, “Jesus Firm Foundation”

The title track from Jesus, Firm Foundation: Hymns Of Worship has been released to Christian AC and Soft AC. A star-studded affair, Jesus Firm Foundation features Mike Donehey of Tenth Avenue North, Mark Hall of Casting Crowns, and solo singers Steven Curtis Chapman and Mandisa.

Lyrically, Jesus, Firm Foundation: Hymns Of Worship is stellar and topnotch. The title hymn has been given new life by the four vocalists, and it is both contemporary yet spiritual. The album itself featurestoday’s most respected Christian artists and songwriters, including Newsboys, Brandon Heath, and Matthew West. I checked iTunes today, and Jesus Firm Foundation is now available for purchase for US$0.69, so on my lead, boys and girls, get a copy of this soon to be Christian classic.

JESUS FIRM FOUNDATION Lyrics
Mandisa, Maike Donehey, Mark Hall, and Stephen Curtis Chapman

How firm a foundation you saints of the Lord
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word
What more can He say then to you He has said
To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled

Fear not, He is with us, o be not dismayed
For He is our God, our Sustainer and Strength
He’ll be our Defender and cause us to stand
Upheld by His merciful almighty hand

How firm our foundation
How sure our salvation
And we will not be shaken
Jesus firm foundation

The soul that is trusting in Jesus as Lord
Will press on enduring the darkest of storms
And though even Hell should endeavor to shake
He’ll never, no never, no never forsake
He’ll never, no never, no never forsake

How firm our foundation
How sure our salvation
And we will not be shaken
Jesus firm foundation

Age to age He stands faithful to the end
(Faithful to the end)
All may fade away, but He will remain
He will remain

How firm our foundation
How sure our salvation
And we will not be shaken
Jesus firm foundation
Jesus firm foundation
Jesus firm foundation
Jesus firm foundation

Francesca Battistelli, “Strangely Dim”

Francesca Battistelli, “Strangely Dim”

Contemporary Christian star Francesca Battistelli, who has scored number hits with “I’m Letting Go,” “Free To Be Me” and “This Is The Stuff,” has released “Strangely Dim” to iTunes. Strangely Dim will be on the repackaged version of Battistelli’s previous release, Hundred More Years. Personally, I think Strangely Dim may be Battistelli’s best carrier single to date, and should fittingly usher her back to number one, where she rightfully belongs. While Strangely Dim is still pleasantly within Battistelli’s pop-rock roots, it displays a maturity and spiritual depth that should appeal to a new audience while not alienating her already faithful fans (include me in that latter list).

Battistelli never fails to surprise. She never disappoints. Strangely Dim is another great chapter in her ever evolving, ever inspiring discography.

STRANGELY DIM Lyrics
Francesca Battistelli

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

I’ve had all these plans piled up sky high
A thousand dreams on hold and I don’t know why
I got a front row seat to the longest wait
And I just can’t see past the things I pray
Today

But when I fix my eyes on all that You are
Then every doubt I feel deep in my heart
Grows strangely dim
All my worries fade and fall to the ground
‘Cuz when I seek Your face and don’t look around
Any place I’m in grows strangely dim

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Sometimes where I stand
On this narrow road is in a raging storm
Or a valley low
But oh

But when I fix my eyes on all that You are
Then every doubt I feel deep in my heart
Grows strangely dim
All my worries fade and fall to the ground
‘Cuz when I seek Your face and don’t look around
Any place I’m in grows strangely dim dim

I don’t know, I don’t know
What tomorrow may hold
But I know, but I know
That You’re holding it all
So no matter what may come

I’m gonna fix my eyes on all that You are
‘Til every doubt I feel deep in my heart
Grows strangely dim
Let all my worries fade and fall to the ground
I’m gonna seek Your face and not look around
‘Til the place I’m in grows strangely dim

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Billboard Top Christian Songs – February 23, 2013

This week, Chris Tomlin’s Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies) makes it three in a row on Billboard’s Christian Songs chart, just as MercyMe’s You Are I Am rises 5-3 and presents itself as the most likely contender for number one. Kristian Stanfill’s One Thing Remains stays at number two for a second week. Still no new songs to the Top 10 for a third week. (In picture: Plumb, whose Need You Now rises 7-5 this week)

The Afters, “Every Good Thing”

The Afters, “Every Good Thing”

Contemporary Christian pop-rock group The Afters have released Every Good Thing as its new 2013 single. The track is now picking up at Christian AC and Christian CHR. Every Good Thing just explodes with positivity and gratitude towards a God Who continues to bless. It’s a great track, and I love the “Woooh!” part they displayed in this The Living Room acoustic performance from Joe Buchanan. You know people will be singing that for months to come.

EVERY GOOD THING Lyrics
The Afters

I tend to be busier than I should be
I tend to think that time is going to wait for me
Sometimes I forget and take for granted
That it’s a beautiful life we live
I don’t want to miss the moments like this
This is a beautiful life You give

You’re the reason for every good thing, every heartbeat
Every day we get to breathe
You’re the reason for anything that lasts, every second chance
Every laugh
Life is so sweet
You’re the reason for every good thing

There will be days that give me more than I can take
But I know that You always make beauty from my heartache
Don’t want to forget or take for granted
That it’s a beautiful life we live
I’m not going to miss the moments like this
This is a beautiful life You give

It’s our family, it’s our friends
It’s the feeling that I get when I see my children smile
You’re the reason for this life, everything we love
It’s You alive in us
You’re alive in us

You are here in every moment, and I know that You’re every good thing
You are here in every moment, and I know that You’re the reason for
You are every good thing

For King and Country, “Middle of Your Heart”

For King and Country, “Middle of Your Heart”

Contemporary Christian duo For King and Country have released Middle of Your Heart as the third single off their debut release, the Proof of Your Love. Of all three singles, I like Middle of Your Heart the most. I like the ebullient nature of the song. The instrumentation is topnotch, and, of course, Joel and Luke Smallbone’s first-class vocals are impeccable as always. Given that The Proof of Your Love went Top 10, I’m hoping that Middle of Your Heart will exceed its predecessor, because it’s a great pop-rock song with a great hook, sung by a great band, all about a great God. Works for me.

This is where it begin
This is where all the worry ends
This is where I say
I don’t need to have control

This is where I admit
I don’t know how to handle it
Life in all of it chaos
You are my only hope

And all that I have offer
Is the white flag of surrender

Chorus
So take me to the middle of your heart
Lead me to wherever your love starts
To a new day dawning
To the place you are
And if you wanna take me over the edge
I’ll let you ‘cause you’re love is where I’ll land
Wanna be right where you are
In middle of your heart

This what I believe
That if I give you my everything
I will become who I was really born to be

I’ll stand up to say it
Yeah, your love is something I can put my faith in

Chorus

I carried what I carried
But now I can let it do
Yeah I carried what I carried
But now I can let it go
Now I can let it go

Chorus

(Music & Lyrics: Joel Smallbone / Luke Smallbone / Ben Glover)
