Wilson Phillips, “Good Vibrations”
Wilson Phillips’ comeback album, Dedicated, has hit stores across the United States, and the unique QVC promotions in which Chynna Phillips, Carnie Wilson, and Wendy Wilson engaged seems to have paid off, as Dedicated debuted at a surprisingly high #29 on the Billboard 200. Recently, Sony Music released a video of Good Vibrations as the first video off Dedicated. I think a lot of Wilson Phillips fans were taken by surprise by this move, as California Dreaming and Dedicated to the One I Love were the songs usually performed on the air in the course of Wilson Phillips’ television promotions, so I think we were all expecting that either of those two songs would be the first “single.” As it turns out, it’s the pure a capella of Good Vibrations, which isn’t a bad thing, especially since Carnie’s lower register takes the forefront in this deliciously rich acapella rendition of the Beach Boys original. To date, the song has peaked at #25 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart.
