Kari Jobe, “We Are”

Kari Jobe, “We Are”

Contemporary Christian singer-songwriter Kari Jobe is back! The Dove Award winner (2010 for Le Canto, Spanish Language Album of the Year) has transferred from Integrity Music/Columbia/Gateway Create to the decidedly more aggressive Sparrow Records. The first single from Kari under Sparrow Records is We Are, which happens to be the same title of Jobe’s first Sparrow Records album, due late 2011/early 2012. “A declaration to the Church to wake up and let its light shine,” We Are is decidedly anthemic, instantly catchy, and stands to be Jobe’s first-ever Top 10 hit. (I’m sure the marketing muscle of Sparrow Records will not rest until We Are finished Top 10, if not #1. Sparrow is home to some of Christian music’s most exciting female artists, including Mandisa and Britt Nicole, so Kari Jobe will fit right in.)

I love Kari Jobe’s We Are. It’s absolutely wonderful. I love the “we are the city on the hill” and “let the light shine” singalong choruses, so this will catch on like wildfire in churches and on Christian radio. What a hook! (Ed Cash, isdatchu?) As early as now, We Are is now picking up at Christian AC, and if this video to which I’ve linked is to be believed, it can fit right in with the holiday season and perform very well despite the late 2011 release. I predict a Top 10 finish sometime in early 2012, just in time for the album release.

WE ARE Lyrics
Kari Jobe

Every secret, every shame
Every fear, every pain
Live inside the dark
But that’s not who we are
We are children of the day

So wake up sleeper, lift your head
We were meant for more than this
Fight the shadows conquer death
Make the most of the time we have left

We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine

We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine
Let the light shine, let the light shine

We are called to the spread the news
Tell the world the simple truth
Jesus came to save, there’s freedom in His Name
So let His love break through

We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine

We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine

We are the light
We are the light
We are the light
So let Your light shine brighter
We are the light
We are the light
We are the light
Jesus
You are the light
You are the light
You are the light
We will lift You higher
Shine shine shine

We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine

We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine

We gotta shine
We gotta shine (So let the light shine)
We gotta shine
We gotta shine (Let the light shine)
We gotta shine (Let the light shine)
