Ganns Deen, “Make It Mine” (for the Somnio-UnBox collaboration)

Unbox, the Philippines’ ultimate resource for everything awesome for men, and Somnio Running Shoes, are inviting bloggers to be creative in explaining why they would like to own a pair of Somnio Mission Control running shoes in their Mission Control Contest. Considering how my last running program crash-landed with a sprained ankle – I don’t blame my trusty Mizunos, but they are kinda worn out – I admit I could use a new pair of running shoes. (Those adventures are chronicled in my cobweb-laden fitness blog, Future Thin Guy.) Everything about Mission Control sounded droolworthy.

So, I need to be creative. Hmmm… I thought to myself, this is an opportunity to spoof a song!

What song would describe how badly you want those shoes?, I thought. I really want to make ’em mine. Then, proverbial lightbulb atop my head. Make It Mine by Sir Jason Mraz is one of my favorite pop-rock songs, a fun and flighty song that I’ve since rewritten to describe how the Somnio Mission Control running shoes can help jumpstart my fitness program and get me back on the saddle towards Mandisa-type weight loss.

So, without further ado, no copyright infringement intended, here’s my spoof of Make It Mine for the Somnio-Unbox collaboration. The reasons why I’d like a pair of Somnio shoes are in the lyrics. (By the way, if I win, I’ll do my best to make a video for this featuring the actual shoes. That’s another great way to advertise, my friends at Somnio. You’ll forgive me for trying to tip the scales in my favor, yesz?)

MAKE IT MINE
Ganns Deen
Original by Jason Mraz

Wake up, everyone
How can you sleep at a time like this
Oh wait a minute it’s 4:30
Listen to your voice
The one that tells you
That you gotta get and run
Watch all the fat disappear

I don’t wanna wait before these shoes are taken
I’m gonna make it mine Yes I, I know it
I’m gonna make it mine
Yes I’ll make it all mine

I keep my life on a heavy rotation
That’s why my weight is rising up, up, up and away
Spend all my time with coffee at the neighborhood cafe

When I am finally there
And all the angels they’ll be singing
Ah la la la, ah la la la
I la la la la love it

I don’t wanna break before the run is over
I’m gonna make it mine
Yes I, I’ll own it
I’m gonna make it mine
Yes I’ll make it all mine

There was a time when I was known as Future Thin Guy
I ran some races, it was easy like a piece of pie
I overate because I thought it would make me feel fine
And now it’s hell because of my expanding waistline
So help me get back to a better fitter place and time
Somnio shoes… help me make it mine

Timing’s everything
With these shoes, there’s plenty
I am balancing
Careful and steady
And reveling in energy that Somnio’s emitting

Well I don’t wanna wait to see
Oh I wanna celebrate a new me
I’m gonna make it mine
Oh yes I’m gonna be sexy

I’m gonna make it mine
Cuz I’ll be so thin
I’m gonna make it mine
That’s why, I will show you

I’m gonna make it mine
Gonna make it mine
Oh mine
Yes I’ll make it all mine
