We cannot miss Al Gore in Manila

We cannot miss Al Gore in Manila

I was extremely psyched to learn that environmental advocate, Academy Award winner, and former US Vice President Al Gore is the keynote speaker of Leadership Conference Series 3. Gore will deliver a lecture titled “Al Gore: The Leader as Environmental Steward” on April 30 at the SMX Convention Center at the SM Mall of Asia Complex, using an Asian version of his “An Inconvenient Truth,” which you might recall was his Academy Award-winning documentary in 2007.

Gore’s presentation is “a provocative multimedia presentation on the threat posed by climate change and proposed solutions to global warming.” It’s not the film.

The odds are significant that many, many people, including myself, will probably attend because of former Vice President Gore. I’m looking forward to hearing what he has to say about the environment vis-a-vis the Asian climate change situation – are there significant differences between our situation and that of the United States, or does he think we are all in the same proverbial boat, so to speak – and how people will react to what he has to say.

Change is never easy, and hearing the “inconvenient truth,” regardless of who says it, is never comfortable and easy.

See you at Leadership Conference Series 3! I’ll be in the cheap seats.

Update: Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and former US vice-president Al Gore will visit us on June 8 instead of April 30. According to a statement from SM Prime Holdings, Gore’s Asian version of his “An Inconvenient Truth” multimedia presentation will be delivered at the leadership conference scheduled on June 8. Gore’s presentation eventually led to the film that won him an Academy Award as the producer of that year’s Best Documentary; he also recently published “Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis, a tome that compiles some of the most effective environmental strategies to help slow down climate change.
